Read this before you rely on an edited photo
Many immigration and passport authorities require a photograph that has not been digitally altered. Replacing a background, smoothing skin, enhancing with AI, or applying a camera filter can all be treated as manipulation and can get an application refused or disqualified — regardless of whether the file passes an automated size check. Reframing, rotating and resizing are not alteration; changing the content of the picture is.

Lighting correction is on too — it lifts an under-exposed face and evens out a shadow across one side of it, and it has its own switch. What catches people out on a India Passport (Passport Seva) photo
- Passport Seva wants exactly 630×810 — not a range. We output that precise size.
- India asks for a tighter head crop than most countries: chin-to-crown 36–38 mm, with the face filling about 80–85% of the frame.
- The 250 KB ceiling with a 630×810 frame is comfortable; we do not inflate the file to reach the 10 KB floor.
Why this photo is not interchangeable
Where India departs from the standard passport photo
A photo accepted for one country is regularly refused for another. These are the specific rules Ministry of External Affairs sets that differ from the ICAO 35 × 45 mm default most passports follow.
Head must be 80%–84% of the frame
The ICAO default is 71%–80%. Ministry of External Affairs requires 80%–84%, measured chin to crown including hair — a different crop than a standard passport photo.
There is a minimum file size, not only a maximum
The file must be at least 10 KB. Over-compressing to make an upload smaller is a common way to fail this check.
Exactly 630 × 810 pixels
Not a range — an image one pixel outside these dimensions is rejected by the upload form.
